Bib

  • Barelds , Dick. “Love at first sight or friends first? Ties among partner personality trait similarity, relationship onset, relationship quality, and love.” University of Groningen 24.4 (2007): 479-496 . Web. 14 Feb 2010. <http://spr.sagepub.com/cgi/content/abstract/24/4/479>.

This explains the sexual portion of love at first sight. It will be useful in explaining if love at first sight is just a form of lust or if it is real love. According to this article rapidly intimate relationships tend to develop from love at first sight.

  • PIPBERGER, Hubert. “The Love-at-First-Sight Effect in Research.” Journal of the american heart association (2004): n. pag. Web. 12 Feb 2010. <http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/reprint/38/5/822.pdf>.

This source was extremely useful in that it went into full detail of statistics and scientific research of my topic.

  • Reiss, Ira. “Toward a sociology of the Heterosexual Love Relationship.” Marriage and Family Living n. pag. Web. 17 Feb 2010. <http://www.jstor.org/pss/347330>.

This had some really good quotes on heterosexual relationships. Particularly ones that are built purely around intimacy and sex rather than a mental connection. This will help to express my hypothesis.

  • Wilson, Glen. “Parental characteristics and partner choice: some evidence for Oedipal imprinting.” Journal of Biosocial Science (2008): n. pag. Web. 17 Feb 2010. <http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayAbstract?fromPage=online&aid=1636060>.

This had a very interesting spin on the mental preparedness of love at first sight and weather or not parental units played a role. If there is such as thing as females being attracted to their fathers and males to their mothers could be part of the mental section of my essay.

  • Fisher, Helen. Why we love: the nature and chemistry of romantic love . 1. New York New York: Henry Holt and Comapany LLC, 2005. 13-15. Print.

OK so this isn’t a scholarly journal but it is cited and I was online and it has some awesome points on love and why we ever do it in the first place. I could definitely use this in my mentality section of my paper.

  • Fisher, Helen. “Romantic love: a Mammalian Brain System For Mate Choice .” Philosophical Transactions: Biological Sciences 361.1476 (2006): n. pag. Web. 17 Feb 2010. <http://www.jstor.org/stable/20209808?&Search=yes&term=love&term=sight&term=first&list=hide&searchUri=%2Faction%2FdoBasicSearch%3FQuery%3Dlove%2Bat%2Bfirst%2Bsight%26wc%3Don&item=1&ttl=71576&returnArticleService=showArticle

This was very interesting on how other mammals find love and that love at first sight may not only exist between humans. This could be used in my conclusion if I decide to show that love at first sight is real and can happen to almost anyone or in this case anything.

  • Kelly, Janis. “Sister Love: An Exploration of the Need for Homosexual Experience .” Family Coordinator 24.4 (1972): n. pag. Web. 17 Feb 2010. <http://www.jstor.org/stable/582690?&Search=yes&term=love&term=homosexual&list=hide&searchUri=%2Faction%2FdoBasicResults%3Fla%3D%26wc%3Don%26gw%3Djtx%26Query%3Dhomosexual%2Blove%26sbq%3Dhomosexual%2Blove%26prq%3Dlove%26si%3D1%26jtxsi%3D1%26jcpsi%3D1%26artsi%3D1%26so%3Drel%26hp%3D25%26x%3D14%26y%3D11&item=2&ttl=12734&returnArticleService=showArticle>.

This explained that all people have some kind of homosexual tendencies and there is a need to explore them. This could be used in the homosexuality section to show that everyone has that kind of attraction to someone of their own sex.

  • Matthews, Christopher. “Love at First Sight: The Velocity of Victorian Heterosexuality .” Victorian Studies 46.3 (2004): n. pag. Web. 17 Feb 2010. <http://www.jstor.org/stable/3829668?&Search=yes&term=love&term=sight&term=first&list=hide&searchUri=%2Faction%2FdoBasicSearch%3FQuery%3Dlove%2Bat%2Bfirst%2Bsight%26gw%3Djtx%26prq%3Dlove%2Bat%2Ba%2Bglance%26hp%3D25%26so%3Drel%26wc%3Don&item=14&ttl=71576&returnArticleService=showArticle>.

This explained a negative view of love at first sight stating at one point that it could not exist. But it also goes into detail about how long this topic has been studied and the studies that have been done on it. This would be good for my conclusion

  • cavallo, Justin. “Taking Chances in the Face of Threat: Romantic Risk Regulation and Approach Motivation.” Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin 35.6 (2009): n. pag. Web. 17 Feb 2010. <http://vnweb.hwwilsonweb.com/hww/results/getResults.jhtml?_DARGS=/hww/results/results_common.jhtml.33>.

This was very helpful in describing the effect of low self esteem on persons falling in love. I wonder if there is a connection between this and love at first sight and the types of people who it happens to. This would be good to mention in the mental part.

  • petersen, jennifer. “A Meta-Analytic Review of Research on Gender Differences in Sexuality, 1993-2007.” Psychological Bulletin 136.1 (2009): n. pag. Web. 17 Feb 2010. <http://vnweb.hwwilsonweb.com/hww/results/getResults.jhtml?_DARGS=/hww/results/results_common.jhtml.33>.

This was all about sex so it would be used in the physical aspect of my paper. The part I would use was about casual sex and how people are not mentally attracted but physically attracted to each other.

good work, Melinda. The more thorough your annotations are, however, the easier your lit review will be to write…
